Why is vapor degreasing important to the aerospace industry?

Vapor degreasing is a critical cleaning process in the aerospace industry, as it is used to remove contaminants such as oils, greases, and other soils from aircraft and aerospace components. These contaminants can interfere with the performance and safety of these components, so it is important to remove them through a thorough and effective cleaning process.

TechKleen FDW and TechKleen FD for Displacement Drying

TechKleen® FDW and TechKleen® FD for Displacement Drying Systems

For drying applications that demand a spot-free finish, a displacement agent and rinsing agent in combination with specially designed equipment are typically employed to get the job done. Spot-free drying can be accomplished because of the relatively high specific gravity of the drying fluid which encourages rapid displacement of water from the part surface.

TechKleen® FDW (displacement agent) and TechKleen® FD (rinsing agent) are the new products of choice for this high-tech, results-oriented process due to their excellent performance characteristics and because they are an environmentally conscious alternative to water displacement drying systems such as CFC113, HCFC-225 (AK-225) and other perfluorocarbon systems. For example, TechKleen® FD has an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of zero and very low Global Warming Potential (GWP).

Some applications that often require a spot-free finish include:

· Electromechanical Assemblies

· Optical Elements and Lenses

· Computer Components

· Medical Devices

· Computer Components

· Aerospace Components

Equipment

A fully integrated system typically includes: drying sump; two rinsing sumps; primary and secondary water separators; primary and secondary cooling systems; and, a filtered recirculation system.

Chemistry

TechKleen® FDW – as the displacement agent typically used in tank one. An azeotropic, non-flammable solvent blend consisting of 1,2-trans-dichloroethylene and HFC-365mfc (1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane) with an added specialty surfactant for water displacement drying.

TechKleen® FD – as the cleaning and rinsing agent typically found in tanks two and three and consisting of 1,2-trans-dichloroethylene and HFC-365mfc (1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane).
